My favourite Poems

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
"I love her for her smile--her look--her way
Of speaking gently,--for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day" -
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee,--and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry, -
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou may'st love on, through love's eternity.

- Elizabeth Browning

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I carry your heart with me...
I carry it in my heart!
I am never without it, anywhere
I go you go, my dear;
And whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling...
I fear no fate, for you are my fate, my sweet...
I want no world, for beautiful you are my world,my true
And it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
And whatever a sun will always sing is you!

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows...
Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life
Which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide...
And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart...

I carry your heart... I carry it in my heart!

-Edward Estlin Cummings
